This course covers deliveries and newborn resuscitation. It has been designed for use by medical students, residents and physicians who are preparing for the USMLE Step 2 or Step 3 exam, studying for their clerkship Shelf Exam, or wishing to review the essential components of pediatrics.

You will learn about the newborn exam, and anticipatory guidance for new parents. You will also master common neonatal problems and diseases and:

  • Learn how to manage newborns, from delivery to advising parents as they leave the hospital
  • Master complications of a negative intrauterine environment, from TORCH infections to maternal diabetes
  • Learn about the management of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia

Brian Alverson, MD is the Director for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Hasbro Children's Hospital and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Brown University in Providence, RI. He has been active in pediatric education and research for 15 years. He has won over 25 teaching awards at two Ivy League Medical Schools. He is co-author of the book "Step Up to Pediatrics" and over 40 peer reviewed articles. Dr. Alverson has extensive experience in preparing students for the USMLE exams and has significant test-writing experience.

Brian Alverson, MD

Dr. Brian Alverson is the Residency Director at Nemours Children's Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware and a Professor of Pediatrics at Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Until 2022, he has been a Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Medical Science at Brown University, as well as the Director for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Hasbro Children's Hospital, Rhode Island, USA.

He obtained his MD at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1999 and is currently also the Director of Undergraduate Pediatric Education at the Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University.

Due to his achievements in pediatric education, he has won over 25 teaching awards at two Ivy League Medical Schools.
