Metabolic bone disorders encompass all ailments having to do with poor mineralization of the skeleton, be it due to hormonal or nutritional factors. A competent physician plays a key role in the timely detection of metabolic bone diseases to ensure a reduction of overall complications and enhance outcomes. In this course, the student will be given a tour of commonly encountered metabolic bone disorders. For optimal comprehension, the student needs to be familiarized with the anatomy and physiology of the locomotor system, specially with calcium and phosphate homeostasis.
