Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that focuses on the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. It encompasses the medical and surgical care of women during these critical stages and often overlaps with gynecology. Specific topics in obstetrics include prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, high-risk obstetrics, fetal medicine, surgical procedures, and even technologies like in vitro fertilization. 

Both obstetrics and gynecology deal with women’s health, are closely related, and often overlap. The main difference is that obstetrics focuses on pregnancy and childbirth, while gynecology deals with the broader aspects of women’s reproductive health. A lot of physicians combine the two and provide care for both fields.
