Students always ask me Dr. Raj you go through all these clinical investigations. Let us talk about all these clinical maneuvers and talk about these laboratory tests, but you put them in doing the lecture and we are not quite sure how to follow you. What have done and what you have now been exposed to? It is that whenever we have a concept for example, valvular heart diseases or where there was a lecture series in which we specifically walked through all the maneuvers that were necessary for you to diagnose your particular valvular heart disease. Now when we talk about pericardium and thus far we have talked about how if the pericardial cavity gets filled up rather quickly or slowly or what kind of laboratory exams are you looking for here? Welcome to our topic of diseases of the pericardium and laboratory investigations. Well the difference once again between cardiac tamponade versus pericardial effusion. Tamponade means accumulation of fluid in the pericardial cavity. No doubt. But it is rapidity of the fluid accumulating within the pericardial cavity that makes the difference. The time line for us will be a big deal for us to distinguish between the two important conditions. Now, with both these conditions, it leads to the decreased filling of the heart. Now let me break this up for you. Remember the pericardial cavity is being filled pathologically. But in the meantime, it was going to the heart. It is restricting it. So therefore you tell me what kind of dysfunction is this? Good. A diastole dysfunction because you cannot fill up the heart. You understand that. So bringing the physiology, you understand the pathology and ultimately you figure out how your patient is. Now, if the feeling is so restricted within the heart, ultimately you...
