Mineral, Fluid Electrolyte and Acid-Base Disorders (MBBS India)

Mineral, Fluid Electrolyte and Acid-Base Disorders (MBBS India)

by Thad Wilson, PhD, Carlo Raj, MD
Water and ions are tighly regulated by a myriad of mechanism in the body. Imbalances in fluid or electrolyte homeostasis produce a set of well-known clinical entities. In this course, the student will be given an overview of the physiology of fluid and acid-base balance, and the disorders associated with loss of their homeostasis. For optimal comprehension, the student will be required to have a basic understanding of biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, histology, and endocrine physiology. Fluid and electrolyte imbalances are still common sights in the ER and wards of all major specialties. The competent physician needs to be able to recognize the hallmark clinical manifestations and lab findings of these disorders, and come up with the most adequate management strategy. keeping in mind the underlying physiology of these disorders.

Mostly complete series
By Kieffer D. on 21. July 2022 for Acid-Base Balance

The lecture series was great over all but I was wondering if there’s an anion gap lecture regarding the calculations needed to identify a widened gap as well as the delta-delta equations. And if so why isn’t it part of the acid-based series?

Grate condensed summary of the topic!
By Alejandro A. on 17. July 2022 for Acid-Base Balance

Really well done! It’s very helpful to recall and reinforce basic concepts.
