Cardiovascular disease is among the major public health concerns in the Western world, and its associated morbidity can severely impair the function and quality of life of affected individuals. A good clinician should be able to identify the most common signs and symptoms associated with cardiac anomalies and also be proficient in interpreting ECG tracings. Coronary artery disease and conduction abnormalities are of special interest for general practitioners and ER physicians.
In this course, the student will be given a walkthrough of a variety of clinical cases focused on cardiac diseases, each with ECG tracings for practice.
For optimal understanding, the student should be familiar with the anatomy of the heart, with an emphasis on coronary circulation and the conduction system, and cardiac physiology, with special attention to the cardiac cycle and membrane potential. Familiarity with the pathophysiology of all the disorders discussed in the course is also highly recommended.
