Blood is a bodily fluid that consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, abd platelets. Its functions include nutrient and oxygen delivery to tissues, clotting, kicking off the inflammatory cascade, carrying the subsequent inflammatory mediators and cells, transporting waste to tissues for excretion, and maintaining homeostasis in the body (e.g., through regulation of body temperature). Diseases of the blood may involve a pathologic excess or deficiency of any of these components.
