Disorders of the esophagus and stomach refer to illnesses affecting these segments of the GI tract. These include, but are not limited to, dysphagia, diverticular disease, achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hiatal hernia, Barrett’s esophagus, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), gastritis, and esophageal and gastric cancers.
In this course, the student will be given a walkthrough of the most common disorders of the esophagus and stomach seen in clinical practice, as listed above.
For optimal comprehension, the student is required to have preliminary knowledge of the anatomy, histology, physiology, and pathology of the esophagus and stomach.
