Anatomic pathology is the branch of medicine that focuses on the study of tissue samples to reach a diagnosis. Samples studied may include surgically removed organs, biopsy specimens, bodily fluids, and, in some cases, the entire body (autopsy). Pathology plays a crucial role in forensic investigations by providing an expert assessment of the cause and manner of death.
The three main branches of pathology are:
- Anatomical pathology
- Clinical pathology
- Molecular pathology
Pathologists can work in very different environments, e.g. in a blood bank, hospital, or forensic pathology lab.
Pathology is a very varied subject. The most effective way to master pathology is to combine different learning modalities. First, do a deep dive into the topic with video lessons hosted by experienced educators. Next, plunge into followed by Lecturio’s comprehensive Concept Pages. Then, apply what you’ve learned in practical situations by answering clinical case questions in Qbank. Finally, make sure you retain information long -term by regularly reviewing your knowledge with Spaced-Repetition quizzes.
