Tubes and Drains (Nursing)

Nurses use a variety of tubes and drains in patient care for tasks such as draining body fluids and providing nutrition. This course offers overviews of common tubes and drains found in healthcare settings. Knowledge of infection control as well as the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems would be beneficial in order to fully comprehend this course content. Tube and drain care and maintenance is a fundamental skill that is beneficial for all nurses to know.

Samantha Rhea, MSN, RN

Samantha Rhea, MSN, RN, is a Nursing Educator with extensive experience in the higher education industry and acute care facilities, and currently works as a Nursing Instructor at Rogers State University.
She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science from Northeastern State University and her Master's degree in Nursing Education from the University of Oklahoma.
Since 2012, she has been teaching nursing students at various universities across the US, while also maintaining clinical practice as a registered nurse.

NG tubes, (and especially the skillset portion of this sect of knowledge) are hardly talked about in lecture, so these videos are really helping! It would be more beneficial, however, if y'all included some mnemonics to remember the differences between the Salem sump and the Dobhoff gastric tube :)
