Advanced Pathophysiology (APRN)

by Carlo Raj, MD, Mohammad Hajighasemi-Ossareh, MD, Richard Mitchell, MD, PhD

Advanced pathophysiology studies the dysfunction of the body’s normal physiological processes. The underlying causes of these disruptions are numerous and include infections, congenital abnormalities, environmental exposures, and age-related degenerative changes. Understanding advanced pathophysiology is fundamental knowledge for nurse practitioners, allowing for skillful diagnoses and disease management.

In this course, students will be presented with disease processes occurring in each body system. Discussions will include relevant information related to disease pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnostic techniques, and management options. To maximize learning from this course, students should be comfortable with the basic concepts of anatomy and physiology.
