Admission and History Assessment (Nursing)

by Samantha Rhea, MSN, RN

Performing a thorough history with a patient is important for discovering past and current problems, which the healthcare team can actively work to improve. It’s your chance to get to know the patient and find out important factors such as allergies, medical history, current medications, food preferences, and religious considerations, among others.

In this course, you will learn about the typical admission process, including initial steps to take when you first encounter a patient. You’ll also learn about the standard questions that patients and/or family members are asked and crucial safety screenings.

At first, this process may seem overwhelming and tedious. But with practice, you’ll learn how to take efficient and precise admission histories.
