Gastrointestinal Disorders – Pediatric Nursing

This online course provides an in-depth examination of common gastrointestinal disorders and infectious diseases affecting pediatric patients. The course will cover topics such as pediatric vomiting, pediatric diarrhea, appendicitis, disorders of motility, pediatric constipation, and pediatric sepsis.

The course instructor, Jackie Calhoun, is a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, who brings extensive experience and knowledge to the course.

Throughout the course, students will explore the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify the signs and symptoms of common gastrointestinal disorders and infectious diseases in pediatric patients. Participants will also gain the skills and knowledge necessary to provide appropriate and effective care for these patients.

Jackie Calhoun, DNP, RN, CPNP-AC, CCRN

Dr. Jackie Calhoun is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also works as a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She graduated as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP) from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois in 2013, and completed her DNP in Health Systems Executive Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh in 2020. Besides her responsibilities at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Calhoun is involved in a number of different professional organizations, including NAPNAP and SCCM. Furthermore, Dr. Calhoun serves as an item writer for the CPNP-AC certification exam.

I think she gives the information in a very dispersed way, in some parts it is very redundant and does not highlight important information that could be key in exams.
