Blood Collection Process: Venipuncture (Nursing)

by Samantha Rhea, MSN, RN

Accessing a patient’s veins for blood sampling or administering medications or fluids is an essential skill to hone regardless of where you end up working.

In this course, you will learn important aspects to consider for venipuncture, such as materials that you need to gather before starting, vein selection, needle sizes, and the correct order for drawing blood and filling lab tubes (yes, this does matter!).

Ultimately, this is a skill that you’ll have to learn through hands-on practice, but this course is a great launching pad.
