SAW Format

The Self-Assessment Week consisted of four blocks, each featuring 40 questions. This structure allowed for a comprehensive evaluation of students’ skills and knowledge. With each block designed to take approximately 60 minutes, participants were able to engage with the assessment at their own pace, allowing for a flexible and personalized testing experience.

Broad Participation and Student Intentions

Self-Assessment Week 2025 attracted a wide spectrum of medical students, reflecting its broad international appeal. Of those who participated, an impressive 63.6% had international backgrounds, while 29.8% were based in the United States. Notably, many students opted to complete their assessments toward the end of the week, especially on March 3, hinting at a preference for working closer to deadlines. This trend indicates that many students viewed SAW as a key final review tool before their scheduled exams. Most were driven by a need to gauge their preparedness, review during their active study period, and gain exposure to an exam setup comparable to the USMLE®—highlighting the value of self-assessment in supporting their academic goals.

The Power of Post-Assessment Insights

After Self-Assessment Week 2025 concluded, students looked forward to receiving their results, which were delivered by email within three days of the final submission date. These reports included detailed feedback such as predicted 3-digit scores, percentile placement, and an itemized breakdown of correct and incorrect answers. This thorough feedback allowed students to reflect on their outcomes, pinpoint weaknesses, and fine-tune their study plans moving forward.

A Shared Accomplishment

SAW 2025 represented more than just a test of individual progress—it celebrated the collective resilience and determination of medical students worldwide. The outstanding participation, totaling 10,502 students, reflected the community’s commitment to academic growth and excellence. Their determination and dedication stand as a motivating example for all future healthcare professionals.
