SAW Format

From February 20 to February 28, medical students from around the globe participated in our highly anticipated Self-Assessment Week. The format of SAW included four blocks, each containing 40 questions, providing students with a comprehensive evaluation of their knowledge and skills. With a recommended completion time of 60 minutes per block, participants had the flexibility to tackle the self-assessment at their own pace.

Our team of experts designed the self-assessment to replicate the format and rigor of the USMLE® exams. Each block of questions offered a challenging yet realistic testing experience, allowing participants to gauge their readiness and identify areas for improvement. It’s important to note that the first attempt in answering the questions counted, though users had the option to restart blocks. We encouraged students to complete all four blocks on a single day to simulate the intensity and time management required during the actual exam.

Student Profile

SAW 2023 attracted a diverse group of medical students. Among the participants, 83% were international students, while 17% hailed from the United States. The majority of students opted to take the self-assessment within the last three days of SAW, strategically aligning it with their exam dates, typically scheduled within three months. The motivations behind participating in the self-assessment varied, including assessing exam readiness, dedicated USMLE® preparation, and gaining exposure to the testing environment.

Reaping the Benefits

Upon completion of the self-assessment, participants eagerly awaited their results, which were delivered via email approximately three days after the completion deadline. The email included the predicted 3-digit score, the percentile in which their result fell, and a link to evaluate their correctly and incorrectly answered questions. This post-assessment feedback was invaluable for self-reflection, enabling students to analyze their performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and fine-tune their study strategies for optimal success.

The Collective Performance

SAW 2023 not only empowered individual growth but also showcased the collective strength of our community. The performance of each cohort played a crucial role in determining the score and percentile distributions. Through the dedication and efforts of our participants, we witnessed an incredible surge in registrations, totaling 12,832 students. Their commitment to excellence and their pursuit of academic mastery continue to inspire us.

Conclusion

Thank you for offering such an opportunity! Keep up the good work!
