Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) Deficiency

Fisiopatología de la deficiencia de glucosa-6-fosfato deshidrogenasa:
La vía de la pentosa fosfato contiene 2 fases: oxidativa y no oxidativa. La vía oxidativa produce NADPH, que es necesario para la reducción del glutatión en los glóbulos rojos (que es necesario para neutralizar los metabolitos oxidativos). El primer paso de la vía oxidativa está catalizado por la glucosa-6-fosfato deshidrogenasa (G6PD). Sin esta enzima, no se produce NADPH. Por lo tanto, los glóbulos rojos no están protegidos de los factores de estrés oxidativo, lo que provoca daños y hemólisis.
