SIADH

by Carlo Raj, MD

The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) is a disease that results from the excessive and unsuppressed secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH). This release can be either from the inside or external to the pituitary gland. SIADH most commonly is the result of a secondary underlying disease process, such as CNS disturbances, drugs, surgeries, and malignancies. Clinical manifestations are often secondary to significant hyponatremia.
