00:00 Next up, we're going to talk about the Spondyloarthritides.

00:06 It makes sense for us to just remind ourselves of the broad categories of rheumatic disease first.

00:11 First, you've got your connective tissue diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, Spondyloarthritides which is the subject of this lecture, Vasculitides, of which there's a wide variety Granulomatosis and Polyangiitis, Polyarteritis Nodosa, etc.

00:27 And then non Autoimmune Arthritis like Gout and Osteoarthritis.

00:33 With that overview, let's dive into the Spondyloarthritides.

00:38 This group of diseases was historically referred to as zero negative arthritides.

00:44 Distinguishing them from rheumatoid arthritis which of course is zero positive specifically for rheumatoid factor.

00:50 But the issue is that one quarter of patients with rheumatoid arthritis are seronegative for rheumatoid factor moreover 10% of patients who are seropositive for rheumatoid factor are ultimately diagnosed with one of these four conditions on the screen.

01:08 So while some may have been inclined to call them usually zero negative arthritides, the preferred terminology is just Axial Spondyloarthritide, which means involvement of the spine in contrast to rheumatoid arthritis.
