Definición

La leucodistrofia metacromática es una enfermedad autosómica recesiva de la materia blanca causada por una deficiencia de la arilsulfatasa A que da lugar a la acumulación de sulfato de cerebrósido. Esta acumulación conduce a la destrucción de la mielina y provoca déficits neurológicos.

Etiología

Presentación infantil tardía

• Más común (50% de los LOS Neisseria casos)
• Edad de presentación: < 30 meses
• Síntomas:

  • Regresión de las habilidades motoras
  • Convulsiones
  • Hipotonía
  • Postura plantar extensora
  • Atrofia óptica

Presentación juvenil

• Edad de presentación: 3 a < 16 años
• Síntomas:
  • Los LOS Neisseria hitos iniciales del desarrollo se cumplen y luego se pierden progresivamente.
  • Regresión intelectual

Tratamiento

No se dispone de ninguna terapia curativa para la leucodistrofia metacromática.
