Now this point blows my mind. Look at that, the liver is the only visceral organ that can
regenerate. So even with as much as 75% of the liver dead or gone, the liver can actually
regenerate itself and in just 8 to 15 days. So in a little over 2 weeks, a liver can go from 25%
of it to regenerating itself. That to me is amazing. No other visceral organ can do that except
the liver. Now I want to just remind you you've got a note down there at the bottom that
growth factor and cytokines help with the regeneration because you might be wondering
what, why can the liver do this? Now, I've listed them for you. There's a long list and don't
memorize those. Just keep in mind that growth factor and cytokines are the reason that the
liver can regenerate itself. So, you've got hepatocyte growth factor, insulin, transforming
growth factor-alpha, epidermal growth factor, and you've got the interleukin 6, and
norepinephrine. So all those substances work together to help the liver do an amazing magic
trick of regenerating itself from 25% all brand new.
