00:00 Now, let's talk about childbirth preparation.

00:04 So, we have some options for getting the parents ready for this birth experience.

00:09 Whether they choose to have non-pharmacologic pain relief or they choose to use medication, childbirth education should be an important part of the process of preparing for labor.

00:21 There's several options out there and what you want to do, if you're working with the client on the antepartum side is make sure that they research the options that fit best with both what their goals are for labor and perhaps their personality and what their relationship is like with their partner.

00:37 So, Lamaze is a great method for clients that are either choosing to go natural or not have pharmacologic interventions or clients who may choose to have an epidural.

00:47 Bradley method on the other hand is going to be solely focused on the client who really is interested in a non-pharmacologic birth.

00:55 HypnoBirthing is not what you're thinking or maybe you're not thinking this but it's what I used to think.

01:02 I used to think of the little coin swinging back and forth saying, "You are getting very sleepy." That is not what HypnoBirthing is. HypnoBirthing uses guided imagery.

01:12 Remember earlier, we talked about the idea of going to your happy place? HypnoBirthing allows you to practice that so that you can go to your happy place during labor.

01:23 So, along those same guidelines, you can use general guided imagery, so, not necessarily HypnoBirthing also as a strategy.

    01:31 And also, progressive relaxation.

01:33 This would imply practice however that you get used to listening to your partner, help you relax as you start from your feet and work all the way up to the top of your body.

01:44 So, these are all options for pain relief and management.

01:48 Now, what's really nice about Lamaze or Bradley is that you get more information about the entire pregnancy and not just the labor.

01:56 So, if you have a client that's really hungry for information about the entire process, then, you want to steer them in the direction of those first two.
