00:01 Moving on to tinea pedis, or what we call athlete's foot.

00:05 Tinea pedis is also known as athlete's foot as I mentioned.

00:09 The dermatophyte infection of the skin of the foot usually occurs on the medial aspect, but at the junction between the normal skin and the plant aspect.

00:21 It is caused by the following fungi, but the most common is T.

00:25 rubrum. It usually occurs in adults and adolescents, but is rare prior to puberty.

00:36 Factors that favor infection development include occlusive footwear, e.g. heavy industrial boots, boots, poor peripheral circulation.

00:47 Excessive sweating is one of the causes or predisposing factors.

    00:53 The clinical manifestations.

00:55 When it comes to clinical manifestations, we can talk about interdigital tinea pedis, hyperkeratotic tinea pedis, and vesiculobullous tinea pedis.

01:08 So let's have a look at interdigital tinea pedis.

01:13 One gets pruritic erosions or scales between the toes, especially in the third and fourth interdigital spaces.

01:23 We can also have hyperkeratotic tinea pedis, or what we call moccasin type here.

01:30 Once is diffuse hyperkeratotic eruption involving the soles and medial and lateral surfaces of the feet, resembling a moccasin distribution.

01:40 Hence it is called moccasin type.

01:44 One m ay also get to fit one hand syndrome.

01:47 And what do we mean by this? It is when you've got involvement of the feet and if you are right handed, when you scratch the feet, the fungus spreads to your right hand.

01:57 If you are left handed, then it spreads to your left hand.

02:01 We also have vesiculobullous tinea pedis.

02:04 It's pruritic, sometimes painful with vesicular or bullous eruption.

02:10 And the medial aspect of the foot is usually involved.

02:15 The differential diagnosis includes plantar psoriasis, plantar keratoderma, foot eczema, or what we call pompholyx.
