00:04 Now after you complete this procedure, make sure you turn the bed to the lowest position assist the patient in a comfortable position, get rid of all those used supplies, and of course reassess the patient and treat as indicated. 00:18 After the procedure, the patient could have some pain, so make sure we assess this here. 00:24 Then we want to remove our gloves, perform our hand hygiene, of course document the procedure. 00:29 Let's take a look at some special considerations with staple removal. 00:34 So of course, we talked about this earlier, infection could be an issue here. 00:38 Looking around that incision site, do we have signs of redness, warmth, weird color drainage, pus, we need to take a look here because that's a serious complication. 00:50 Now of course, when we're talking about staple removal, the whole point of this is the keep that wound closed. 00:56 So if there's an incomplete wound closure, we may need to pause before we remove our staples. 01:03 We also want to make sure we get all those staples out. 01:06 We don't want to leave any of those in. 01:09 So make sure you check that incision and get all the staples removed as ordered. 01:15 And again last note, that pain factor is a big deal for our patients. 01:19 Make sure we assess and treat properly with staple removal. 01:23 Thanks for watching.
