The 3 main functions of the kidney are cleaning and maintaining extracellular fluid, maintaining acid-base balance, excreting waste and substances like drugs and other things our body needs to get rid off and the nephrons are the functional working units of the kidneys. 00:24 Now we have a million nephrons in each kidney and each nephron has 3 parts; the tubules, the glomerulus and the Bowman's capsule.
