Removal Procedures in Primary Care

Removal Procedures in Primary Care

by Glenna Lashley, FNP, MSN

Removal procedures are critical primary care skills that enable advanced practice providers to safely extract foreign objects and address traumatic injuries that commonly present in clinical settings. Students will learn safe fish hook removal techniques, ring removal procedures for cases involving swelling or injury, and nail removal techniques for treating severe nail bed injuries, infections, or ingrown nails.

These specialized competencies allow APPs to provide immediate care for urgent situations, prevent further tissue damage, and avoid costly emergency department referrals while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
