In all of this work, the next
definition, which is controversial,
sometimes there are
different beliefs about
the concept of
psychological safety.
00:13
But what it is,
is being able to show an employee
yourself without fear of
negative consequences,
because we can't control
what's going to happen in terms
of how people receive or perceive
the information we provide.
00:27
We also cannot not
continue the work
because of some
of the negative consequences.
00:33
But I've promoted vulnerability
and courage a lot.
00:36
And if people don't feel a
sense of psychological safety,
it will be difficult
to have conversations
that facilitate the transformation.
00:44
And so, I usually say that
if I'm the facilitator,
because I have control
to a certain degree
of how people interact
with each other?
I do say that this is a
psychologically safe space
because as the facilitator,
I can ask someone
to excuse themselves
who is being disrespectful
or disparaging someone
which discourages people from fully
participating in the workshops.
01:13
I can ask that person to leave.
01:15
And I think about, I hate extremes,
but I think about
we could also call it insecurity.
01:20
But we do want to make sure
if you are facilitating
these workshops or
the transformational type changes,
trainings, whatever it is,
that you can have security
in there if necessary.
01:33
But we hope that people who show
up in these spaces are showing up
because they really do want
to be a part of the change.
