So now let's move on to lung anatomy.
Again, it's important to recognize both soft tissue anatomy,
mediastinal anatomy and lung anatomy when you're looking at a chest x-rays
because these are all of the different things
that you're going to be looking at and looking for.
So the top part of the right lobe of the right lung is the right upper lobe
and then you have the right lower lobe which forms the inferior aspect.
Again, there's no real division that's seen on the frontal radiograph.
It's an approximate division about half way through.
You can see the costophrenic angle on both sides here.
It should form a very sharp margin and if it doesn't form a sharp margin,
that does indicate pathology which will be discussing.
Again, we have the trachea midline here,
we have the left upper lobe as the top part of the left lung
and we have the left lower lobe as the bottom part of the left lung.
Here you can see the subtle shadow of the carina
and that's also important to evaluate
especially when we're looking at positioning of lines and tubes.
Here we have a sharp margin that forms the cardiophrenic angle.
Again, on both sides.
So let's take a look at lobar anatomy on the lateral film.
You can actually divide the lung into half with the diagonal line here
like we have shown and then you can divide the front half of that
with the horizontal line, so you should have that clear space of air
called the retrosternal clear space that we saw earlier
and on the front half of the lung is divided into the upper lobes,
both upper lobes are here and then you have right middle lobe,
so the right lung has three lobes, it has the right upper lobe,
the right middle lobe and then the right lower lobe.
The left lung has only two lobes if you recall,
it has the upper lobe and it has the lower lobe.
So this here would also represent the left upper lobe
and in this entire section here are both lower lobes
and you can see here the posterior costophrenic angle
which again should form a very sharp margin.
