00:04 In this video, I'd like to show you how to load a surgical scalpel if you have a nondisposable handle.

00:10 So this is a typical way that you will put these together.

00:13 If you'll notice that this is how I'm holding this blade, I will encourage you to do the same thing.

00:17 When you hold on to this hold above the keyhole, which is this little slot in the middle here.

00:23 And hold your non-dominant hand and snap it on.

00:25 So this is held pretty tight.

00:27 The blade is facing towards the left.

00:30 Okay, you'll notice on this, if there is a notch, the little sliver right here is going to line up like this.

00:38 Okay, if you have it backwards, you won't see that.

00:41 Okay, you can't put it on that way. You have to put it on this way.

00:44 But that said, sometimes people will try to put them on.

00:46 Like this wasn't going to work, right? Because it's angled doesn't match. So make sure you match that angle.

00:52 So that eventually will look like this.

00:55 Okay. So you'll notice that there's a large hole here, and then it goes to a smaller, little sliver there.

01:01 On the side of this, you'll notice that there is a small little keyhole.

01:06 That keyhole, the key way is what integrates into here.

    01:12 Okay.

01:14 If you just go side shot here, you'll see pops right in.

01:20 Okay, it's all there is to it.

01:22 Just wedges right in the middle of those.

01:24 To take this off safely, snap onto the base.

01:30 Roll it up just slightly. Roll it up.

01:34 Push it forward, pops right off. Okay. Very easy to do.

01:39 Always best to do when you're holding it safely by pushing it on and you're pulling it off.

01:45 So pushing it on. Fine snips in there.

01:50 Okay, and then we'll push it off.

    01:57 No big deal. Okay.

01:58 Can you do this with your bare hands? Absolutely, you can.

02:02 But that said, I would encourage you to always do this with an instrument for safety.

02:07 Okay, not a big deal.

02:08 You can always lift it up and slide it forward.

02:11 But until you know how to do this safely and encouraging people to not use your fingers is probably the best practice here.

02:17 You'll see people put on their fingers all the time in the operating room because it's easier in some regards.

02:22 But safest way that I want you to do, this is how I just showed you. Okay.

02:26 So if you are doing this, practice this.

02:29 Make sure you realize this is very sharp blade.

    02:31 Don't poke yourself.
