00:00 Welcome to a discussion about labor. Now, labor is a very complex but amazing process and in order to really make it easy to understand, we're going to use a mnemonic known as the 5 Ps of labor. Each of these 5 Ps stands for an element of labor that contributes to the progress. 00:24 Healthcare providers are going to monitor each of these 5 Ps to make sure not only that the labor is progressing, but that it's progressing safely because any complication in any of these areas can actually increase the chance of a Caesarean birth. So are you ready? Here we go. The 5 Ps stand for passenger, passageway, powers, position, and the psyche of the pregnant patient.
The lecture Five Ps of Labor: Introduction (Nursing) by Jacquelyn McMillian-Bohler, PhD, CNM is from the course The 5 Ps of Labor (Nursing).
