    00:00 So let's wrap up this video series on the 3 F words of cirrhosis.

    00:05 Flow, filter and formulate.

    00:08 So when we're talking about cirrhosis as this scarring or cirrhosis progresses, the liver just can't perform as well, and there are many signs that the liver is causing complications in the other parts of the body.

    00:21 That's where the three F words come in.

    00:23 So when there's impaired flow, damage to the liver causes portal hypertension and overloaded veins to all vessels in the portal system.

    00:32 Even end up with things like splenomegaly and ascites and all those things we discussed in the video.

    00:38 Now, if you have an impaired filtering, you end up with elevated levels of ammonia, which is a neurotoxin.

    00:45 Plus there are other toxins left in the bloodstream.

    00:48 Now the third F was impaired formulating.

    00:51 You end up with low protein, malnutrition, high estrogen levels, and additional problems with fluid volume management.
