So let's wrap up
this video series.
00:03
Remember the WHO,
the World Health Organization
recommends a regimen
of multiple antiretroviral
for HIV positive patients.
00:12
The goal of ART is a
normal CD4 T-cell count
and the lowest
possible HIV viral load
to maximize the health
of the immune system
and prevent progression to AIDS.
00:24
Now art should continue
to be effective
if the patient is able to
be compliant and consistent
with the medication.
00:31
Patient may experience
some side effects with ART,
but these should resolve
over a period of time
but keep asking them
because compliance equals
tolerable side effects.
00:41
So that's our role to work
alongside the patient.
00:44
If drug resistance develops,
the healthcare provider can
recommend an alternative
medication regimen.
00:50
