The Macromolecules of Life

by Georgina Cornwall, PhD

Macromolecules, also referred to as biomolecules, are the basic building blocks of cells and biological systems. All being carbon-based, they all play a role in different aspects of day-to-day cellular functions, such as energy storage, cellular architecture and metabolism, and the coding of information and expression, among others.

In this course, the student will be given an overview of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.

For optimal comprehension, the student will be required to be familiar with the basic concepts of college-grade biology and chemistry.

A great introduction to essential material.
By Arnold C. on 10. February 2023 for The Macromolecules of Life

A great summary and introduction to an important but sometimes confusing topic. The questions following the mini lectures sometimes seemed out of sink, covered in a later lecture, etc. For students using this as a key resource, it is essential they understand that using the suggested textbooks and answering all the questions is necessary if preparing of licensing exams, etc.

The teaching is basic and does not represent material tested on USMLE exams. The concepts are taught by an instructor unfamiliar with the actual exam. Technically, questions pop up in the middle of a sentence and sometimes before the subject matter tested was mentioned.
