Cell Biology

by Georgina Cornwall, PhD

All living organisms are made out of cells – but how do they work?

There are 50 trillion cells in the human body. Together, they form a highly complex organism - the human being. Cell biology, also known as cytology, functions as a basis for the science of life by studying it at its smallest level. Starting with the formation of molecules and cellular structures, this comprehensive course will explore the complex life of a cell, its structure and functions, and its communication with other cells.

The main contents of this course are:
  • The chemical basis for cytology
  • The formation of molecules, macromolecules and cellular structures
  • Membranes and the communication between cells
  • Life and death of a cell
  • Biochemical processes like glycolysis and pyruvate oxidation
  • Nutrients for the cell: proteins and the catabolism of fats
Supported by accessible graphics and diagrams, this course will build up an advanced knowledge of biology as required in your pre-medical studies and other scientific degrees.

Some parts that the instructor was going through were not gone into depth when they should have and some parts should have their own video.

Moderately brief and concise

Just an introductory lecture on any course enkindles a burning zeal to learn more. It is a perfect review lecture on the go and a better way to have fun while learning. A perfect definition of concise learning in a limited period.

I like it a lot. Good review. The slides for mitosis is the wrong one, ie different lecture notes

Impressed by the knowledge of the presenter. However, had a feeling that she was asked to push/rush through some of the concepts in minimum possible hrs. Seems like some concepts needed more time to explain. Overall, I loved this series.
