Biological membranes are vital for the existence of all living organisms. They protect a cell from its surrounding environment, contain specialized transport proteins that allow the exchange of molecules across the barrier, and offer potential targets for many pharmaceutical compounds. Students will learn about passive versus active transport across the membrane, how cells can establish membrane potentials, and the molecular forces that allow the membraneโs fatty acid organization to remain intact.
